Two years ago, the Buick Envision crossover became a precedent: it is the first car that is massively shipped to the US from China. The only plant that produces this model is in China (it’s JV Shanghai GM), and production beyond the ocean is not even planned. And American customers do not seem to be bogged down about the origin of the car: for ten months of this year 33 thousand parking lots were sold – this is the level of German classmates BMW X3 or Mercedes GLC. Meanwhile, China has already introduced an updated Buick Envision.
Changes, at first glance, are small: the grille of the radiator with a new proprietary “bird”, the front bumper (with a silver bottom part) and the tail lights. In the cabin – a new media system Buick eConnect with access to the Internet, and on the central tunnel there are now two cup holders instead of one, although the machines for America were so originally.
But there are more significant changes. The most powerful turbo engine 2.0 SIDI develops the previous 260 hp, but the peak torque is increased from 353 to 400 Nm, and instead of the six-speed “automatic” a nine-speed box is installed – the same as on the new family of Opel Insignia. Such crossovers are equipped with a front drive and a transmission with individual couplings connecting the rear wheels. The basic power unit for the Chinese market has not changed: it is a turbo engine 1.5 (169 hp, 250 Nm) paired with a seven-step preselective “robot”, which also can work with front or all-wheel drive.
