Renault Symbioz, version 2.0 Is this the future?

Symbioz is evolving. In the autumn I got acquainted with the show car , which became the star of the car dealership in Frankfurt, but in fact was a fragile shell without a technical stuffing. However, even then I was shown models and sketches of the running prototype. Here it is in front of us: the Renault Symbioz Demo Car can already ride and show its unmanned capabilities.
The concept of the car has remained the same: it is a huge hatchback with a length of 4920 mm with a three-meter wheelbase, an aluminum body and a mass of about 2.2 tons. Two electric motors on the rear axle have a nominal return of 490 hp. and 550 Nm, and the peak – 680 hp. and 660 Nm. The capacity of the traction battery under the floor is 72 kWh, although the project provides versions and for 100 kWh. The bow thruster of the rear wheels improves maneuverability, the acceleration time to 100 km / h – six seconds. 

Demo Car, although similar to the concept, but has a completely different body: the same proportions are flavored with more mundane lines and solutions like conventional swing doors or roof racks. The design of the fore and aft has changed, optics have been enlarged, rear-view cameras and platforms for license plates have appeared. In short, Symbioz has become closer to reality.
The same can be said about the salon. There are four separate armchairs and a front panel consisting of three OLED displays: this is the future media system of Multi-Sense already the third generation, which allows you to manage almost all the functions of the car. But to switch the modes of motion you need to click not on the display, but on the holographic emblem Renault on the center of the steering wheel.
In addition to the traditional Classic and Dynamic presets, in which the driver must drive the car, there is AD mode, which, however, does not lead to the underworld, but to the unmanned future (the abbreviation stands for Automated Driving). According to the idea, Renault Symbioz is equipped with a fourth-level autopilot of five possible, that is, the car can go on its own in most situations, without seeking help from the driver. In this mode, the instruments and steering wheel move 12 cm forward, the front seats fall lower and slightly recline, and if desired they can be rotated ten degrees to the longitudinal axis of the car to facilitate communication with fellow travelers. But the opportunity to deploy the chairs, like the concept, is excluded, because the fourth-level autopilot can still require urgent human intervention.

For the motion in unmanned mode, there is a complex of lidars, radars, ultrasonic sensors and a front camera. But in practice, the autonomous algorithms are still being honed: thousands of test kilometers ahead on public roads under the supervision of test pilots. Although the tests began in advance using special mules.
By the way, developers did not forget about the idea of ​​a symbiosis of a car and a dwelling, for which they built a special house, half of the area occupied by parking for a car. On the idea, the electric Symbioz should be a continuation of the home interior. For example, music in such a house can be heard through the car audio system Devialet, and the route for the car is set still sitting on the couch, from a smartphone or computer.
But all this is only a dream. A serial car, similar to Symbiosis, in Renault is expected to be released only in 2023. And on the way to this goal, there are other plans. The first model with an autopilot will appear in 2019, and this will be a second-level system – like the current ProPilot for Nissan cars. And by 2022, 15 “drones” of the second and third levels and eight electric vehicles will see the light.
