10 Commandments of a motorcyclist: what do you need to know first?

The price of an error in motorcycle management is in-commensurable with the car: those on two wheels do not protect the body, belts, or airbags. What you need to know and remember in the first place?

Equipping? Of course, she is able to soften the fall, but she can not be considered a panacea. Equally as to rely on other road users. Your only ally – you yourself! Your experience, common sense, reaction and the ability to advance on many paths to predict road collisions. And it’s good if you can not just avoid troubles, but at the root to suppress the very possibility of its occurrence. Let’s consider the most dangerous, from my point of view, scenarios on the road.

1. Do not exceed

The trouble of many drivers in The States, and not only those who ride a motorcycle, is overwhelming, unconfirmed self-confidence. Any modern sport bike gets 200 km / h in about eight seconds, and the maximum speed sometimes even exceeds 300 km / h. But when your speedometer shows 200+ in everyday life, and not on the track, you must understand exactly that you become a real stealth – completely invisible to most motorists. Therefore, any, even contradicting the traffic police, the maneuvers of machines that will become a hindrance will be on your conscience. And any contact with a car or other road object at such speed almost 100% does not leave you a chance.

Do you think that you are perfectly in possession of the technique and all of you are under the control? Go on a track or a cardboard – and there you will be unhappy with the number of fast guys who easily “bring you” a circle of lag for a 15-minute session. Moreover, their sport bikes on the track, as a rule, are delivered in trailers or vans.

2. Attention, intersection

Places where the roads intersect, sometimes cross out and someone’s destiny. Yes, the motorcycle is more maneuverable than the car and in most cases the green light is touched first or has time to leap on the “long green” last. Or it does not. And after all, you – such a sudden and always the first – are simply not ready to see at the crossroads other participants of the movement, who are also used to succeed in “long yellow.” Yes, and they are wrong. But your loved ones will hardly be knowledgeable.

3. Caution, rain

Water on the road is very dangerous! And alas, many routes are not designed in the best way in terms of safety. Therefore, a poor drainage of water, filled with cracks, joints, combs and a lot of other surprises from road builders in the weather can easily lead to a fall.

4. Far from the ropes

In recent times, rope barriers have appeared on many highways. They are cheaper in production, but in Europe even there were actions and protests against cables representing a real threat to the life of motorcyclists, even in the event of contact at low speeds. Be a hundred cautious!

5. Tricks – no

Wheelie on the public road – taboo! Even if in a general flow at a speed of 200 km / h on a rear wheel is a supercharged motorcyclist, the slightest error when landing or contacting the car can become fatal: I know at least five sad cases. To demonstrate the skill of a car ride it is necessary on closed trails!

6. Technical check

Damaged brake calipers, torn chains of the main gear, wear of tires – all these malfunctions on the motorcycle may cause a fatal outcome. It is necessary to evaluate the state of the art as in aviation before each departure.

7. Consider realities

Any of your mistakes is in danger. For example, in one of the journeys , I erroneously estimated the traffic as the minimum, passing almost every turn “on the knee” – which surprisingly surprised the local inhabitant, who is not accustomed to motorcycles lying in a rotation at a speed far beyond 100 km / h. And surprised so much that he continued to move directly to me, tightly clamping the brakes on the view of the “right-handed” car. Moving out succeeded literally in millimeters, but the mistake was precisely on my part: it is always necessary to take into account local realities and not get out of the conventional framework. For example, in Italy, everyone is accustomed to fast motorcyclists in turns – of course, you can not break the PDD, and there, but active riding on serpentine you will not surprise anyone.

8. Think for others

A very common type of accident – when a motorist either turns left or unfolds, and a fast and sudden motorcyclist, who overtly overtakes everyone on the left, unexpectedly and too late notices the front side of the car. Let even in this place double solid, you will hardly become easier. Try to anticipate the actions of others: is not someone going to commit a maneuver dangerous for you?

9. There are no motorbikes

Of course, no motorbike near the separation barrier on routes like the  Ring Road does not exist, but with round-the-clock traffic jam at the  Ring Road, motorcyclists ride right there. And many do not go, but rather fly. And if someone decides to open the door or simply move to the left to evaluate the situation, then your chances of staying alive will be striving to zero.

10. Mutually write axial

The road without a dividing strip  is still the majority. Just imagine that at a speed of 90 km / h and of its own speed, for example, 110 km / h, you get 200 km / h at the moment of the collision! What do you think, what are the chances of a motorcyclist surviving in such a scenario? Therefore, on such roads it is necessary to mentally mend the missing marking and adhere to it.
